Shalene Bird is a proud Woodland Cree woman from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, deeply rooted in the traditions and teachings of her ancestors. With eight years of sobriety, Shalene’s journey is one of strength, resilience, and healing. She has transformed her life through the guidance of culture, ceremony, and community, and now dedicates her work to empowering others to do the same.
A proud mother of two boys, Shalene leads by example—teaching her sons the importance of balance, respect, and connection to their Indigenous identity. Her role as a mother is central to her purpose, inspiring her to create a brighter and healthier future for the next generation.
As an educator and youth mentor, Shalene is passionate about working with young people to promote wellness, cultural awareness, and self-empowerment. She integrates traditional teachings with modern education, helping youth rediscover pride in who they are and where they come from. Through her work, she fosters safe spaces for healing, learning, and growth, especially for Indigenous youth navigating the impacts of intergenerational trauma.
Beyond her professional and community work, Shalene is a devoted and grounded in humility, compassion, and cultural strength. Shalene continues to inspire others through her teachings, and her unwavering commitment to living a life guided by the Indigenous values of respect, kindness, and gratitude.
